Comic Industry Vet Mike Grell Joins Pensacon

Comic artist/writer Mike GrellMike Grell, the legendary artist/writer behind The Warlord, Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters, and Shaman’s Tears will be joining the Pensacon guest list In February 2014.

Mike’s career in comics began in 1972 as an assistant to Dale Messick on the Brenda Starr comic strip, before moving on to DC Comics in 1973. His first assignment with that company was on Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes. He also worked on Aquaman, Batman, The Phantom Stranger, and the re-launch of the Green Lantern/Green Arrow series in 1976.

In the 1980s Grell developed his creator-owned titles Jon Sable Freelance and Starslayer. Sable’s origin tale, “A Storm Over Eden,” was expanded and published as the novel, Sable. Mike also wrote and drew the Tarzan comic strip (1981-1983) and in 1988 authored and illustrated the graphic novel adaptation of the James Bond film Licence to Kill.
